The Team

Carmine Giardina, Co-Founder

Carmine Giardina was born in Manhasset, New York and grew up in Valrico, Florida just outside of Tampa, Florida. He attended Durant high school where he Lettered four years in Baseball. After high school he attended the University of Central Florida for two years on a baseball scholarship before transferring to the University of Tampa where he graduated with a degree in Sports Management. Carmine was drafted a total of three times, first by the Red Sox (2006), Pirates (2009), Angels (2010). He is currently playing in the Los Angeles Angels organization.  During Spring Training of 2011 Carmine tore his UCL and underwent Tommy John Surgery and was forced to sit out the entire 2011 season. This is where a transformation began in Carmines life, for the first time in his playing career Carmine experienced life without baseball. During these long months of rehab he realized that there was more to life than sports and building your identity through what you do on the playing field. Carmine gained a relationship with Jesus and found that an identity through Him and His loving relationship is one that will never leave nor forsake you and will be there long after your playing career is over. Carmine is excited for what God has in store for Unashamed Athletes and is excited for the opportunity created for athletes to use their platform God has given them to impact people all over the world!

Drew Beuerlein, Co-Founder

Drew Beuerlein was born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona. He played 3 years of varsity baseball for Desert Mountain high school. Drew received a scholarship to UNLV in Las Vegas where he graduated with a sports management degree. Drew was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and is currently with the Colorado Rockies organization. In 2006 Drew was as close to dying as you can get. He developed a staph infection called MRSA and was in the hospital for a week. Ever since that near death experience, Drew knew that there was a greater purpose to life than just athletics. He started to learn more about Jesus and what a relationship with Him meant. Drew committed his life to follow Jesus and his faith is what keeps him going each day. He is extremely passionate about sharing God’s incredible love with others and believes that there is nothing better than seeing people’s lives transformed by God’s grace. Drew wrote his first book called Catching Grace, which was released in February of 2012. Drew is excited about where God is taking Unashamed Athletes and what He has in store for all of the people involved!

Kayla Beuerlein, Women’s Ministry Leader

Kayla was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a Registered Nurse at a children’s hospital. Although this entails the burden of seeing sick children, the joy that comes from Christ that she gets to spread to children and their weary families is her calling. As far as athletics go, she played softballand volleyball through high school and continues to play for fun. Her desire and goal in this ministry is to be open and available to all of the women. This walk requires honesty and accountability so that we can become the women that God has called us to be. She wants you to feel comfortable to come to her with any needs, prayer requests or simply someone to share what’s on your heart with. She has some great suggestions for women’s books to go alongside the necessary scripture readings.

Tony Garcia

Tony Garcia was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He attended Durant High School where he lettered 4 years in baseball. Tony got a scholarship to attend Lenoir-Rhyne University where he majored in Business Finance with a minor in Accounting. His freshman year in college he suffered a torn rotator cuff. It was that injury that led him to the understanding that God is to be first in every aspect in our lives. It transformed his life and eventually led him into ministry, where he now leads the outreach for Sub30 at the The Crossing Church in Tampa. Tony is excited to be a part of Unashamed Athletes and the direction God is taking the ministry.
