Gebben Miles – World Champion, Professional Sporting Clays Shooter

by carmine on July 10, 2014

I grew up in Tucson AZ and was a gifted athlete. My dream was to be a pro golfer but some injuries in HS ended my golfing career and I didn’t go as far in basketball and baseball as I hoped. Fortunately some doors opened in sporting clays and I decided to pursue a shooting career after college.

I grew up in a Christian home and gave my heart to Jesus at the age of 7 but there was no real growth in that relationship. Sports and a relationship with a girl became idols in my life. As I pursued a shooting career, I realized my identity was wrapped around my performance. When I shot well I became very prideful. When I shot poorly I sought other worldly pleasures apart from God to fill the void. I also viewed a girl who I was in a relationship as a higher priority than spending time with God.

God completely broke me of my pride and living a life apart from Him. Jesus pulled me from the darkness I was living in and made me His child. He gave me a new identity and I’ve learned how to use shooting as an act of worship toward my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The environment he used to do this was through a ministry called Athletes in Action and their Ultimate Training Camp. This camp changed the entire trajectory of my life!

Since 2008 I have been hosting Bible Studies at nearly every shooting competition I attend. God has elevated my platform to share the gospel by allowing me to be one of the best clay pigeon shooters and coaches in the world. Winning a world championship is great but a relationship with Jesus is still better. I have a heart to serve the shooting community and share the good news of Christ. People so often live without true joy and that makes my heart hurt. Everyone who is living without joy is suppressing things that God is telling them to do. The joy of The Lord is our strength. If we aren’t operating in joy who’s strength are we operating in?

I encourage every reader to lean in to Jesus with everything and to love Him as deeply as you are able because He loves you more.

In Christ,

Gebben Miles
