As a child, I grew up in a Christian home and have been a practicing believer since birth. I have been fortunate to have many great role models in my life growing up because everyone in my family also has a strong faith. A little later on in life I attended Eastside Catholic high school. Right before my sophomore year I went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with my Reality Sports baseball team. We toured the island going to little towns and villages playing the local teams, giving out care packages and sharing our testimonies and teaching God’s word.

This was one of the first times in my life that I was called on to share God’s word with others. This was also the first time where I was supposed to share the story behind my own faith. During this trip my eyes were opened. After delivering care packages to the small homes and shacks in the villages, I realized how fortunate and blessed I am to have the life I live. With each town we visited we played a double header at old, worn down fields with the local team. In between the games we could give our testimonies and hand out bibles to the fans and opposing players who were listening. To see first-hand peoples thirst for God’s word was so special. This along with sharing my testimony over and over really deepened my faith. This event was life changing in terms of my faith.

Through high school I always heard from my family and mentors to live for the lord in all we do. This never sunk in until my freshman year at Oregon State. I didn’t realize the impact I had as a guy wearing that uniform playing every day. I realized that people looked up to me because of this and that I could use this platform to glorify God every single day. After all this is all a gift and blessing from God. He gives us each talents and it is our duty to go out and live for him every day. As said in Matthew 25: 14-30 with the Parable of Talents, it is our duty to go out and use what the Lord has given us to its fullest and glorify him. For me I know that I can use the platform of baseball to give God the glory. I feel I did this over my college career, and through it I have grown as a Christian. I have not been perfect by any means but with each day I continue to deepen my faith and live for him.
